Vikram Vedha beats Baahubali 2, tops IMDB list

The website uses ratings from more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to determine this list. The Kollywood flick currently boasts of a 8.9/10 rating on IMDB, and is followed on the list by Baahubali: The Conclusion, Arjun Reddy, Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium, The Ghazi Attack, Toilet-Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2. Vijay’s Mersal is the only other Tamil film in the top ten, ranked ninth. The Great Father also features on the list.

For husband-wife directorial duo Pushkar-Gayathri who helmed Vikram Vedha, it is Xmas coming early. “We were really happy with the response when the film released – but being ranked first on IMDB is quite a surprise. We are just really grateful to all the people who signed up and voted for the movie. Next up, we are working on a dramatic thriller, not necessarily involving cops or gangsters again, but it will be a far cry from our earlier quirky comedies like Oram Po or Vaa Quarter Cutting,” said an ecstatic Pushkar.

“Fans worldwide demonstrated interest in a diverse set of Indian movies - from Vikram Vedha to The Great Father. It is interesting to note that films based on classics and mythology, as well as those based on contemporary issues, emerged as the two prominent themes of 2017,” said Neha Gureja, IMDb’s Head of Audience Development.

“Socially conscious movies such as Secret Superstar, Hindi Medium, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, and Mersal resonated among users. Additionally, three of IMDb’s Top 10 Stars of 2017 Indian Cinema (Tamannaah Bhatia Prabhas and Anushka Shetty) all starred together in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which was the highest-grossing Indian movie of the year,” she added.

With appealing performances and a popular background score, Vikram Vedha was an easy win for Tamil audiences.
