Lekha enters ‘DIY Partnership’ with boyfriend

Actress and artist Lekha Washington sort of got married recently. We say sort of because she doesn’t call it a wedding. 

Rather, she terms it a ‘DIY Partnership’ she’s entered into with her boyfriend of eight years, journalist Pablo Chaterji, son of renowned theatre artist Dhritiman Chaterji, who is a respected member of the English theatre scene in the city. 

Breaking the news on social media, she wrote, “So we did a thing. It was not a wedding, to be quite clear. We called it a DIY Partnership Ceremony - weddings and marriage have their own pre-conceived notions and baggage. We’d like to start from scratch, building our own rules and bending them, defining our own lives. If you look at these pictures real fast, it should play like video and you should feel sufficiently hungover and exhausted by the end of it.” 

The couple exchanged vows in the presence of just 100 close friends and family in Alibaug on November 18. Lekha wore a beautiful lehenga by her favourite designer Sanjay Garg, while Pablo looked dapper in bandhgala suit. Among those who attended the wedding were actor Siddharth and Imran Khan who was present with his wife and Lekha’s best friend Avantika Malik. Also present was designer Chaitanya Rao. First recognised for her work as a sculptor and a theatre performer,Lekha was one of the first VJs from Chennai. Lekha also ventured into cinema with her role as an independent estranged sister in Jayamkondaan, and the path-breaking film Kalyana Samayal Saadham, earning her critical acclaim. Meanwhile, Pablo is the managing editor of a popular men’s magazine.
