Scoot to Australia without burning a hole in your pocket

If the article about my Gold Coast experience earlier this week hasn’t yet urged you to push that ‘book’ button on travel portals, maybe a quick skim through this piece would change your mind and get you packing to not just Queensland but also the rest of Down Under.

Although my five-day-long Media Familiarisation trip to Gold Coast was completely taken care of by Scoot-Tigerair and Tourism and Events Queensland, a scan through the airfare had me quite surprised, pleasantly! Airfare is one of the most important factors one considers while planning a vacation.

As per popular notion, for the Indian traveller, Australia has always been considered a little too expensive to travel to. However, it is this very misconception that Scoot aims to change. Scoot, that recently hooked up with Tigerair, offers seamless connectivity to Australia, and at very affordable fares.

A flight ticket to Melbourne or Sydney or Gold Coast or Perth, starts from as low as just Rs. 12,000, and you can book a return trip from Rs. 23,000. On July 25, Scoot and Tigerair aim to complete their integration and operate all flights under the Scoot brand, subject to final regulatory approval.

Consequently, the flight designator code for Scoot flights will be changed from the current TZ to TR, the code currently used for Tigerair flights. All flight schedules remain unchanged. Thereon, www.flyscoot.com will be the sole booking platform for all flights.

In addition, guests can look forward to a refreshed look for the friendly crew, with a new uniform rolled out in celebration of the airline’s new chapter ahead. These latest developments will wrap up the integration efforts of both carriers that have been undertaken since May 2016, when they were brought under a common holding company, Budget Aviation Holdings.

Lee Lik Hsin, CEO of Budget Aviation Holdings, says, “The Scoot brand, known for its cheeky and fun vibe as well as innovative products, is well-loved by travellers around the world. We are looking forward to taking the brand further and offering guests a seamless travel experience throughout the expanded network, with the completion of our integration into a single airline.” The integrated will also consist of Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A320-family aircraft.

    Breezy on-board services

From binge-watching ScooTV, live streaming your favourite shows on your device at 9 USD to unlimited Wi-Fi from 11.95 USD, the airline offers an array of services. Additionally, the Economy class seats out-size that of other low-cost carriers and are comparable to full-service carriers.

The meal options, that include an equal number of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, are also quite impressive, tasty (from what I’ve experienced) and reasonably priced. The menu is divided into various categories including Premium Selections, Hot Meals, Light Meals and Long Haul Meal Bundles.

Every Scoot flight is stocked with a wide variety of products that include memorabilia, cosmetics, fragrances, chic accessories, liquor and more. You can go on a shopping spree from the comfort of your seat! So, if you’re still mulling over that long overdue trip to Australia, Scoot now!
