Musical ode to women across generations
Indie artiste Krithika Bala has launched a music video, The 4G Family Song, that portrays the different roles a woman plays in her lifetime to ring in International Women’s Day
Chennai
Krithika Bala recalls growing up in a musical family, where her grandmother was a music teacher and a wonderful cook. The penchant for music was passed on to her mother, who was a musician and a social worker and she herself has managed to successfully balance her musical career with entrepreneurship.
The song, The 4G Family Song , written and c o m p o s e d by Krithika, brings out the bond shared by four generations of women in a family and how a woman plays different roles in a family, and pulls it off with aplomb.
“I have grown up seeing all women in my life multi-tasking and having an easy camaraderie among themselves. So, it was something that naturally came to my daughter and me. In our family, all four generation of women play multiple roles and are happy doing that. Everybody has fun. I am sure there are many other families like ours. This was the idea behind the song,” says Krithika.
The video shows how women in the family support and learn from each other and how when it comes to celebrating a family, age is never a barrier. “The song is an expression of my love for the women (my grandmother, mother and my daughter) who have backed me at every step of the way in whatever I have done. And to all the daughters, mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers, know how special your bond is and keep the love growing,” she adds.
The music video is available on Krithika’s YouTube channel. Besides her day job as a corporate communications professional, Krithika Bala is also a singer and songwriter. She has been a strong advocate of women’s rights and her last single, I am a Woman was released to critical acclaim. The video talked about sexual harassment issues that women face on a day-to-day basis.
“Even if she is second to none, a woman is never free of being treated as an object of desire. Wherever she goes she has no respite from some menfolk who harass her in several ways. It is time we acknowledge the contribution of the women in our lives and celebrate the spirit of womanhood. My new single intends to do just that across four different generations,” she finishes.
