Exploring nature on a trek
In order to take a break from the monotony of our daily lives, our gang of friends decided to go on a trek ‘mission’ to Nagallapuram, 75 km from Chennai, located on the Andhra and Tamil Nadu border.
Chennai
On a misty weekend morning, we set out to our destination that boasts of lush green forests and beautiful waterfalls. Upto 1.5 km from where our vehicles were parked, the heat was scorching, but the trail leading to the hill was pleasant thereafter.
After a 45-minute-long walk through a rocky path, we breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of our first waterfall. We decided to quench our thirst and also satiate our appetite by setting up a barbecue with dry twigs. Lit by the rays of the sun which negotiated with the dense branches of the trees, the spot looked like a shot straight out of a Jurassic Park movie. We also enjoyed a dip in the pond.
From there, we set out on a 50-minute trek guided by the sound of water and reached another magical waterfall. However, as we climbed higher, the trek was getting more difficult. We had to climb slippery slopes and take paths that had sharp rocks, thorns and bees. Nevertheless, the rough terrain made our trip adventurous. Along with the grandeur of nature, we also saw many traces of human negligence – widespread littering bore witness to that.
By the time we reached the last and final waterfall, it was almost 3 pm. The crystal clear water, gurgling stream, the chirping of the birds and the pleasant weather — all made up for the arduous trek. On our way back, we got to relive the moments. When we got back to the city, we were exhausted, but we also carried back some unforgettable moments with nature.
