Spotlight on women in community service
The Prajnya Archives, a project of the Prajnya Trust, is a repository of photographs of women’s work in the public sphere. On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8), it seeks to celebrate their work and contribution by calling for photos, that will run till March 7. Dr. Swarna Rajagopalan, managing trustee of Prajnya Trust tell us more.

Countless women take an active interest in their communities, volunteering time and energy in their housing society, charitable activities, parent-teacher associations, SHGs and other social causes. We see them everywhere. This time, the archives are inviting photographs (with stories) of women who are active in community welfare.
What is the basic idea behind it?
We intend to show how women have, historically, played an important role in community work concerned with social development and public welfare. It is not acknowledged very often.
What is the criteria for sending entries?
Entries may include both new and recent photographs as well as scanned, historical images. Contributions from across South Asia including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Myanmar are welcome.
