Feng Shui: Art of positive energy
Kashmira Daruwala, certified Feng Shui practitioner and owner of one of the country’s oldest Feng Shui stores Feng Shui Chennai, ushered in the Chinese New Year with her boutique’s 20th anniversary. She speaks about the patronage the practice has enjoyed over the years and how a little effort can help in creating a positive environment.

Feng Shui is an ancient art that has its origins in China. It is a complex body of knowledge that teaches how to balance the energies in any given space — be it a home, office or garden — in order to assure good fortune for the people inhabiting it. For better health, a successful career, fulfilling love life, etc, the art has detailed tips for almost any area of one’s life. And it has been two decades now since Kashmira Daruwala brought the practice to the city through her store Feng Shui Chennai.
Speaking about the popularity Feng Shui enjoys, she says, “When I started out, people didn’t have much of an idea about the practice and were a little sceptical about seeking advice. However, over the years the number of people coming to me has increased manifold with people across age groups seeking advice for better health, income, relationship issues and much more. People here relate to it as ‘China Vastu’ as Feng Shui is nothing but fine-tuning the vastu.”
The term Feng Shui literally translates to ‘wind-water’. In Chinese culture, wind and water are associated with good health. “It basically works as an energy shifter which is facilitated by auspicious symbols. I approach it in stages. Whenever someone comes to me, I start by giving them small items to get the energy moving in their respective environments. Then as they get to witness visible signs of improvement, we increase the number of items and give specific placements.
For example, for someone seeking relationship advice, I provide them with a phoenix which rises from the ashes and a harbinger of happiness and peace. Each part of the bird has its benefits. Then there are the Mandarin ducks, which are made for each other,” adds Kashmira, whose store has a discount sale on a wide range of products to improve one’s wealth, health, education, career and matrimonial prospects, till February 28. The products are personally energised by Kashmira.
“This year, important discussions shouldn’t be held in the West. So, simple efforts like these and by placing something as simple as a figurine or a painting, can at the end of the day work wonders in changing one’s fortunes,” she finishes.
