Artists join hands for prostate cancer awareness
Over 16 artists of Artists’ Conclave Foundation are coming together for an art show at Art Houz Gallery for the latest edition of Artitude, whose proceeds will go towards the cause of spreading awareness and treating prostate cancer. The show will be curated by city-based artist Kalpana Yuvarraj.
Chennai
Since 1993, artist Kalpana Yuvarraj has been working relentlessly to use art for a social cause and in 2006 she managed to curate a big show at Cholamandal Artists’ Village and since then there has been no looking back. This is the eleventh edition of Artitude, a regular fund-raising event organised by Artists’ Conclave Foundation — a group of national and international artists.
The Artists’ Conclave Foundation has like-minded artists getting together every now and then to stir emotive responses from the art enthusiasts in an effort to awaken the spirit of self-awareness, through their shared associations.
“I have always believed that artists have a social responsibility and art should serve a purpose and what better way to do so than hosting a show, whose 50 percent proceeds will go towards the cause of cancer. Every year we identify an organisation we want to work with,” shares Kalpana.
The funds raised will be handed over to Indian Prostate Cancer Foundation, who will use it for ‘Operation Prostate Cancer’ to ‘Protect Men Who Protect Us’. They will partner with Ex-Serviceman Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) to create awareness about prostate cancer and conduct free screening for veterans of armed forces.
The show will feature artists like Carmelita Roy, Gargi Sen, AV Ilango, J Kalidass, Manisha Raju, Shilpa Iyer, S Saravanan, Thejomaye Menon and many other popular names. Artitude will showcase both paintings and sculptures.
