Video captures racist rant in US train

Ivet Lolham had been speaking on the phone in Assyrian when she was riding the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train in California on her way home. Soon after, a woman launched a shocking tirade at Lolham, who filmed the encounter in a video that has been shared thousands of times since it was posted to Facebook during the weekend. “I think you are an ugly, mean, evil little pig who might get deported and I pray that you do,” said the abuser. When Lolham said, “I’m a citizen,” the woman shot back, “Oh, then you’re okay. Lucky you, lucky you, you made it just under the wire.”  Lolham said other passengers jumped in and called the police, and the BART tweeted, “With civil discourse deteriorating we want to make clear, threats to riders or employees will not be tolerated. Be decent to each other.” With a number of racist incidents reported since the elections, Lolham said, “Trump needs to say something about this. He has to stop people, this is just not right. People need to be kind. They need to spread love, not hate.”
