Get set for a grand buffet with a great ambience

On a rainy Thursday evening, as we were driving along the Poonamalle Road, we couldn’t help but notice Feathers, a newly opened, fivestar property from the Radha group, standing tall amidst the hustle and bustle on this arterial road.

We decided to pull over, and meanwhile, satiate our hunger pangs at one of the restaurants in the plush 186-room hotel designed by New York-based Meagan Jacobi. We entered the informal yet stylish all-day dining restaurant Waterside, that is adorned with neat and warm woody interiors. The diner offers both indoor and alfresco dining with a water body in the front and natural light streaming in through the floorto-ceiling doorway. A celebration of global food, the restaurant serves an array of cuisines from the Far East, Europe, India and more. There were four studio stations in which one could witness chefs whipping up magic while the creations are laid out in the buffet. Chef Lawrence Amalraj, who comes with 13 years of experience, has curated the menu which boasts of as many as 100 dishes.

We started our meal with the tom yum chicken soup. The clear chicken broth with a hot and fiery blend of shallots, garlic, tomato puree, chillies and lemon grass, was the perfect beginning. For starters, we opted for lal mirch ka paneer tikka.

The salty and sour cottage cheese was perfectly baked and accentuated by the fresh flavours of mint and yoghurt. We also tried the machli koliwada, that is inspired by Koliwada (fishermen) colony of Mumbai. Dipped in a spicy batter and deep fried, the fish was crispy outside and soft inside, it was a delightful affair. From the salad counter, we opted for the classic Waldorf salad, that was light, and refreshing.

The lemon juice gave this easy salad quite a zip, while the apples and nuts offered a nice crunch. It acted as the perfect palate cleanser! There was also the gorgeous Hawaiian chicken sausage salad loaded with tropical flavours, drizzled with a tasty cilantro dressing. We hit the main course with butter naan and a serving of rich dal Lahori. With mild dose of spices, tonnes of garlic and oodles of butter, this preparation is a must try for lovers of Punjabi food.

We followed it up with a drastically different Oriental sliced fish in oyster sauce. The thick flavourful sauce of the dish went well with plain rice. For dessert, we picked the moist Greek honey cake. A sticky cake similar to the baklava, it had rich taste of cinnamon. It was a divine treat, whose taste lingered long after we left the place.
