When Chaitanya released a teaser for the song Evare from the film on the occasion of his father Akkineni Nagarjuna’s birthday earlier this month, the response was overwhelming.

However, when the video for the song was released, fans seemed not to take too kindly to it. In fact, the Evare video teaser has been roundly criticised for not matching up to the Malayalam original.

Expectations were high as it was Vijay Yesudas — he sang the original Malayalam song Malare — who rendered the Telugu track as well. What fans seem to have taken exception to, is the inability of Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan to recreate the Nivin Pauly Sai Pallavi chemistry on screen.

Social media was abuzz with memes of Evare and Malare, and soon these were being shared more than the actual video of the song! In the teaser while Shruti Haasan is looking the part, she doesn’t seem to have the same ease and effortlessness as Sai Pallavi.

Since the essence of the Premam story happens to be her character Malar, fans seem disappointed that Shruti hasn’t been able to match up.
