Rock anthem to celebrate the city
Amith Sivashanmugam, an independent artiste and frontman of the music band White Lady recently officially launched a rock anthem #SongForChennai as a part of ongoing Madras Day celebrations. He shares more details about the song.

As a special dedication to the city, on Madras Day, we officially launched #SongForChennai on August 22. While there are many songs about the city, this is the first rock anthem to be dedicated to the city. The song honours the spirit of Chennai and its people. The video is also focused on the people of Chennai.
When and why did you compose the song?Â
The song was originally composed by me in December 2015, as an effort to raise funds for flood rehabilitation efforts. From January 2016 to May 2016, we sold the audio CD of the song and managed to raise Rs 30,000 towards NGO Dream India’s educational scholarships for more than 50 underprivileged kids in Chennai and Cuddalore.Â
How was the experience of composing this anthem?Â
A lot of intricate detailing have gone into this song and music video to make it unique. We wanted to highlight the true spirit of the city and its people and it is project that is very close to heart.
