Starting a social media campaign, Irani has urged people to follow suit and share pictures of themselves in handloom textiles, tagging five others. “Indian handlooms symbolise India’s heritage & culture. Wear it to carry on our rich tradition and support 43 lakh weavers & their families,” Irani tweeted. Soon, Twitterverse was contributing to the hashtag with full gusto. From politicians to cricketers and fashionistas, including Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi, everyone started participating in the #IWearHandloom campaign. Not just women, even men who have an appreciation for the finer things in their wardrobes also tweeted pictures of themselves donning garments made of handspun textiles, including the likes of Virender Sehwag and Vijender Singh. Well, Irani seems to have pulled the right strings on this one.
