Nandini who comes from a family of multi-gen retailers had always wanted to started something of her own. And pop-up shops, which are spaces allotted for selling a wide range of goods, in the short-term i.e. a few days at max, seemed to be an idea waiting to be tapped.

“Pop-up sales are extremely popular abroad, but Chennai is found lacking in such offbeat shopping experiences. We often come across sales in exhibition halls, wherein there is no common theme or thread to the event. You find Indo-Western clothing on one end and traditional accessories at the other,” explains Nandini, who wants to give Chennai’s fashionistas a different shopping experience.

She says, “I work with designers from across India, operating outside Chennai. At any given pop-up event, I curate clothes and accessories from multiple designers. These days, one can buy collections online. But people prefer experiencing the products, and seeing how well it goes with their body type before investing.”

Nandini, who worked in a bank for over two years to gain some work experience, after finishing her education, tells us, “I like to keep the prices under Rs 25,000. Luxury fashion usually entails a budget exceeding Rs 30,000. I want to tap into the mid-segment market that has the purchasing power and is willing to invest between Rs 20,000 -25,000.” She adds, “I do not charge anything over the MRP of the ensemble, creations and accessories. My commission comes from the designers.”
