Take the pain out of wedding shopping

After running a successful wedding planning firm, Nikkita Ram (27) has now taken the big leap into the world of wedding accessory retailing. Having opened an outlet called Wedding Curry in Egmore, Nikkita says her store sells ‘almost everything’ a bride or groom needs for a dream wedding.

Nikkita, who along with her brother Nikhil Shankar started this venture, says, “I had started a wedding planning company in 2009 with one of my close friends, soon after I finished college. We’d get several orders and we had to source products from different places, which was time-consuming. That’s when we decided to start Wedding Curry.”

From thambulams to traditionally decorated wedding trays, they have it all. “Wedding shopping can be a tedious process. And it’s hard for the couple’s families to travel to different parts of the city to strike a good deal. And there are so many last-minute purchases to be done. Not just for the ceremony but also gifts,” she says, adding that they have products for wedding rituals of all culture and religions.

Apart from weddings, the team even has products and offerings for various other festivals, “During the festival of lights, we have customised Deepavali gift boxes; for Rakshabandhan, we had bespoke rakhis on display; during Christmas, we arrange for special caps and gifts boxes. Also, people can shop for quirky accessories for a bachelorette,” she says.

Their next plan is to take the business overseas through their official website. “There is a huge wedding market abroad which we would like to tap. We have tied up with shipping firms and aim to deliver the products within a week.”
