Chaise Longue: Chaise Longue - French for “long chair”, is an upholstered sofa in the shape of a chair that is designed to support the legs. A chaise longue is perfect for a family room, where you want to prop your feet up and catch up on some TV. Pick soft fabrics for this piece, such as chenille or linens, as its primary function is comfort!
Divan: The divan is essentially a long upholstered bench, without arms or a back. They are often called the day bed as well, as the name suggests, they double up as a bed! Divans come in different styles, and work very well in a living room, against a bare wall with some cushions thrown over.
Fainting Couch: The fainting couch is a couch with a back that is traditionally raised at one end. The back may be situated completely at one side of the couch, or may wrap around and extend the length of the piece much like a traditional couch. The fainting couch is a rather formal piece of furniture, so upholstered in a silk, linen or a soft chenille, it would add a lot of character to your living room!
Futon: The Futon is typically a couch which can convert into a bed. It comprises of a metal or a wood frame with a folded mattress, which when unfolded doubles up as a bed! It is perfect for small apartments, with only one bedroom. It can be used as a couch, and converted into a bed when you have guests! Today there are a number of very cool futons easily available in lovely colours ideal for a youngster’s home!
