Chennai
Deepak Rajkumar of The Majors & Minors, a city-based surprise planner has received quite a few requests for Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday. He shares, “While we have been receiving lots of requests to plan surprises for birthdays, anniversaries and marriage proposals, this time many youngsters have shown interest in planning a surprise for their mother on Mother’s Day. We have a list of about 25-30 surprise packages, from which one can choose, depending on their budget and taste.”
This could be anything from a stranger delivering a goodie bag with a special gift (according to the mother’s taste), chocolates, a personalised card on early Sunday morning to a special song dedication by a son or daughter. Surprise packages can range from Rs 400 to Rs 5,000, depending on how elaborate the plans are and what they incorporate.
Tiny Surprise, another city-based surprise planner and gift delivery portal has already received 20 orders and they are expecting few more on Saturday. “We have had many individuals going in for customised gifts or experiences for their mothers. An interesting thing I noted is that many of the clients are settled abroad or in another city.
They wanted something special for their mothers on Mother’s Day. Among many other things that we are doing, we have mothers being gifted a box full of colourful butterflies that will come out on being opened (the boxes are well ventilated), chocolate filled letters, cupcakes and beauty hampers to rejuvenate,” says Vijay, co-founder of the portal.
Pavithra (name changed), a student at a prestigious fashion design institute in the city is planning to take her mother out for a special dinner on Sunday and has chosen a few songs that she will dedicate to her mother, that will be sung by professional singers.
“Although I stay with my parents in Chennai, I haven’t been able to spend much time with them over the last few months owing to a hectic schedule in college. I have to even stay back at my institute hostel to work on projects with classmates. So on Mother’s Day, I have decided to just spend quality time with her and surprise her with a dinner date,” she says. Some of the other surprise plans for Mother’s Day include a shopping spree at mom’s favourite outlet, a spa bonding session of mom and daughter and a long drive on ECR with a delicious brunch halt at a popular restaurant.
