Ditch the Drapes: Window treatment with frills and fuss is a complete no, when it comes to small homes. Infact, if you ditch the drapes all together, and leave your windows bare, it gives you the perception of depth. Your living room gets connected to the view outside. If you have issue of privacy, then use sheer white curtains, to give you privacy, at the same time create the illusion of space.
Darken up your Ceiling: While light hues work on the walls to open up a space, try a dark toned ceiling. This creates an illusion of height. Opt for dark tones of blue, burgundy, browns, greys and even black to make your room look not only large but chic as well! Wooden ceilings work wonders as well. Use some beautiful chandeliers in your ceiling to add some drama.
Monotone Magic: There is something truly elegant in the use of monotones in décor. By the use of a single colour, be it a grey, a beige, or even an all white, as the image suggests, one can really magnify the space. When the colours of your walls, furniture and soft furnishings merge into one another, it becomes a seamless and never-ending space, thus illusion of a larger space. Less is truly more!
Multifunctional Furniture: When your home is small, your furniture layout is crucial. Opt for small furniture, stay away from heavy pieces as far as possible, and make sure they are multifunctional. For instance, an Ottoman doubles up as a seat and a table, a sofa cum bed comes in handy with a guest. Use trunks as tables, as it’s a great looking piece but also perfect for your storage issues.
Mirrors Magnify: A mirror is our personal favourite piece of wall art. It makes a space elegant, chic and appears much larger than it actually is! Mirrors create the illusion of space so beautifully and brighten up space by reflecting the light streaming through windows. Mirror shutters for wardrobes can double the size of your room!
