Buying Diwali crackers has become much easier as online grocery stores and cracker company are selling them online. Online stores chennaibasket.com and bigbasket.com have special offers this Diwali. For instance, bigbasket.com is offering a 70 per cent flat discount on crackers, while Chennai Basket offers free crackers with grocery sales for their customers.

Sites like anilcelebrations.com, peacockcelebrations.com, festivezone.com and onlinefirecrackers.com started their online sales a few months back. Quite a few sites closed sales from beginning of this month due to heavy demand, while anilcelebrations.com only delivers in Chennai.

“We have been selling firecrackers online for seven years now and the sales have been growing every year,” says Senthil Kumar, CEO of peacockcelebrations.com, the online portal for Standard Fireworks, Sivakasi. “We sell firecrackers throughout the year but we have a special range of products and offers during Diwali. Like any other online shopping website, we have a thorough description and review of all the products,” he adds.

Anil Celebrations has animated displays of the firecrackers on offer. “This gives customers an idea about how they look once it fired,” says Abilash Dhanasekaran, a partner at anilcelebrations.com. “We do free deliveries but the minimum amount has to be Rs 3,000. We take special care while delivering inflammable items.”

Many Sivakasi-based firecracker brands are reaching different parts of the country through their websites. “The demand is increasing. In fact, we had to stop deliveries outside TN due to logistical issues. We have also set up a store in T. Nagar for those who wish to buy crackers a day before Diwali,” adds Abilash.

Buyers are only too happy to get crackers delivered home. Sripal Jain, businessman, says “It’s like buying any other product online. Earlier, we had to get in touch with wholesalers in Sivakasi over the phone and sometimes spend extra on transportation to get bulk orders delivered. Now, the entire process is much easier. We don’t need to deal with crowds and packed marketplaces anymore.”
