The Spoken Wave movement, which was inspired by Nimisha Sara Philip and Varshita Ravindranathan, connects all forms of performance arts from visual to musical on one platform and helps to create a network of talent while supporting relevant social causes in a unique way. After two successful editions, Spoken Wave is back with its third edition to be held on February 24 at VGP Resorts.
Thoroughly excited about the upcoming festival, Nimisha, one of the co-founders, assures that the platform will inspire new creations and create a strong creative community. “The Spoken Word has an incredible identity and like our previous two editions, we are looking to showcase artists, musicians, photographers, poets, theatre
personalities, writers, dancers and sculptors under one roof. Our aim is to encompass and deliver the whole of creativity through noteworthy collaborations under one roof,” says Nimisha.
Elaborating on the pet-friendly festival, she says, “We will have programs from various fields including live bands, stand-up comedy, theatre acts, art installations and more.”
The third edition supports two causes — to set up libraries in children homes across the city and create awareness about mental health. “We want to set up inspirational small libraries in orphanage homes. Also, the participating artists have decided to have at least one of their acts on mental health,” explains Nimisha.
One of the participating artists Kavya Giridharan of Black Swan Dance, is excited about her collaboration with Delhi-based spoken word poet and writer Pragya Bhagat. “Through the performance titled Narcissism, we aim to push dancers and audience to experience different genres and themes within dance. Narcissism is one of Pragya’s earliest spoken word pieces.
“The poem celebrates womanhood and argues that loving our own bodies is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves. Black Swan Dance has taken this piece and interpreted its words through dance — truly giving the audience a treat and some food for thought,” says Kavya.
Radhika Krish of Goli Soda Glass Studio will be presenting her art installation titled Message in a Bottle. “The art installation is a tangible expression of connectedness — an opportunity to express oneself candidly, sharing experiences and thus helping each other learn and spread awareness about the issues affecting our mental health,” Radhika says.
