CHENNAI: A man who booked a cab with Uber cab service, was shocked when he was charged £35,000 (Rs 32 lakh) for a 6 kilometre trip which was for 15 minutes from Hyde to Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, England.

"I ordered an Uber like I do most nights on the way home from work and everything seemed normal. The driver arrived, I got in the Uber and he took me exactly where I was meant to be going. It was a 15-minute journey - tops - and the bill was said to be between £10 and £11, charged to my debit card," Oliver was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

He added, "When I woke up in the morning, I was shocked to see Uber charging me £35,000 for my ride."

When he contacted customer service for the cab to find out the reason for the cost, the staff informed him that the drop off location for the ride was set to Ashton-under-Lyne which is near Adelaide in Australia, which is 16 kilometers.

Uber later adjusted the fare amount to £10.73 and transfered the amount from his bank account.

Oliver also mentioned, the inital amount was not debited from his account as there wasnt sufficient funds, and if he managed to have the money in his account he would end up in a chase to the company for a refund. He still wonders how the location was set to the other part of the globe when he was in England.

The cab company added, "As soon as this issue was raised on Oliver's account we immediately corrected the fare. We're very sorry for any inconvenience caused."
