Tell us in details about the collection that the players sported at the show

My collection is called ‘Yaadgaar-e-Ruhaani Mohabbat’ and it looks at the opulence, luxury and passionate love of the Mughal era. I was inspired to create clothes which depicted the grandeur of that period. I decided to bring alive the intense love story of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved wife Mumtaz on this eventful day through my collection. Among other things you will see a range of sherwanis, lehengas and ghaghras with loads of zardozi and intricate aari work.

How was it dressing up the tennis stars?

It was a novel experience. I spent some time with the players to understand their personalities and then chose the outfits for them accordingly. Apart from Indians, there are a lot of players from across the globe. It was great to see them sport Mughal-inspired Indian look. They looked absolutely stunning.

What will be the new fashion trend that will dominate 2017?

The year 2017 will be about avant garde fashion. Bold and experimental will be the way to go. It will be cutting-edge, innovative and extravagant as more and more people get exposed to global fashion trends owing to Internet and increased travelling.
