CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday heard detailed submissions from the producers of Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the censorship dispute and adjourned the matter to January 9 for further hearing, said a Thanthi TV report.
The issue cropped up after the board sent the film to its review committee after reportedly receiving a complaint the film hurts religious sentiments, a charge that the producers have vehemently denied. The dispute has raised doubts about the producers being able to release the film on January 9 as scheduled.
During the hearing on January 6, the filmmakers rejected the complaint about hurting religious sentiments, pointing out that no one has seen the film till now. Meanwhile, the CBFC maintained that a censor certificate cannot be sought by citing an imminent release date.
