CHENNAI: Three people died and two were injured in a fatal accident at the Vandalur-Minjur ringroad in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Suresh Babu, Ramesh Babu from Gummidipoondi and their friend Sudhakar.

Suresh Babu and Ramesh Babu were brothers who were jointly doing business. They wanted to repair a faulty poclain they owned at Vedanthangal for which mechanics Venkatesh and Rajavelu were summoned. After the work was done, the four along with the brothers' friend Sudhakar left in a car for Gummidipoondi early on Tuesday.

Tragedy struck when the car control was lost and it crashed into the iron railings and fell into a 20-metre-deep gorge. Suresh Babu, Ramesh Babu and their friend Sudhakar died on the spot while Venkatesh and Rajavelu were seriously injured.

The onlookers alerted the police, fire station and ambulance, and called them to the accident spot. The two injured were admitted to a nearby hospital and the mortal remains of the dead were sent to the Sriperumbudur government hospital for examination.

The Poonamalee Traffic Investigation Wing have registered the case and have begun the investigation.
