CHENNAI: Two school students who went to take bath in Kosasthalayar river allegedly drowned near Thiruvalangadu in neighbouring Thiruvallur district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as K Niranjan (15) and P Gokul (13), studying class 10 and class 9 at a government school near Thiruvalangadu. The boys reside in the same neighbourhood. On Saturday morning, they went to take a bath in the river.

However, they did not return home until evening after which their parents started looking for them. Only then they learnt that the boys were seen walking towards the river by the villagers.

While their clothes were found on the river banks, the boys were not around after which the locals gathered and searched for them. Fire and rescue service personnel from Perambakkam reached the scene and after a search, the bodies of both the boys were secured from the river.

Thiruvalangadu police recovered both bodies and sent them to Thiruvallur Government Hospital for postmortem. A case was registered and an investigation is on.
