TIRUVALLUR: In what would be considered a boon for the people of Tiruvallur, the district government hospital that is being constructed at a cost of Rs 166 crore is all set to be opened for public shortly.

Thousands of people from Tiruvallur and its surrounding districts like Tiruttani, Pallipattu, Kadambathur, RK Pettai, Perambakkam, Mappedu and Periyapalayam relied on the district government hospital for treatment over the years.

The state government announced that a state of the art government medical college and hospital would be built at the cost of Rs 385 crore to benefit the residents of Tiruvallur. Following this, a government medical college costing Rs 220 crore was built last year and is functioning currently. As the second leg of the project, six months ago, work began on the construction of the district hospital after the old hospital building was demolished to make way for the new one.

“The building which is coming up at the cost of Rs 166 crore has six floors that would cater to in-patient, out-patient, advanced surgery, emergency, ICU and bone and joint units,” said Tiruvallur Medical College Dean Dr Arasi. She also said that a huge parking lot and other advanced medical equipment to treat burn cases, suicide, heart and diabetes related emergencies are also part of the new building. “Patients with critical emergencies need not be rushed to the Government Hospital in Chennai anymore as we have all the necessary facilities right here,” she added.
