CHENNAI: A day after a video of a policeman in uniform arguing with a citizen after the latter questioning the cop for helmetless riding surfaced online, police have issued a traffic challan to the policeman concerned and have also initiated departmental proceedings against him.

The policeman in the video was identified as S Krishnakumar, a head constable, who was attached to Maduravoyal police station. He has since been sent to armed reserve.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media with a number of netizens expressing displeasure towards the attitude of the man in khaki after which police action followed.

Activist Kasimayan said that incident happened on Friday morning on the way from Padi flyover to Anna Nagar RTO. He had noticed a policeman on a bike without a helmet and speaking on a mobile phone using headphones. He then asked the policeman why was not wearing a helmet. “He then said that he was a policeman and he would do it like that,” Kasimayan said.

After driving some distance, the policeman stopped the vehicle, got down and then intercepted Kasimayan’s bike, the video showed. When the activist asked why he was being stopped, the policeman was seen questioned him in a threatening tone if he had a problem and asked him to leave.
