CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday reiterated that the DMK was not opposed to spirituality and people’s faith, but only those exploiting religion for political and personal gains.

Speaking at the “Vallalar Mupperum Vizha” in the city, Stalin said, “Some people might be surprised and shocked by the conduct of the event. This event (Celebration) is our reply to some people spreading misinformation.”

“Some people who exploit religion for their livelihood (gains) in the country are saying that the Dravidian model government is opposed to spirituality and people’s faith. I would like to reiterate a point because some people might tweak my statement and post them on social media. They will edit my statement and post it as if Stalin said that the Dravidian model government is against spirituality and people’s faith. Some social media exist to cut the portion about people exploiting religion for personal gains,” he said.

“I would like to categorically state that DMK is not against spirituality. The Dravidian model DMK government is only against people who exploit religion for their political and personal gains and preach discrimination. People familiar with the religious tradition of the Tamil land would be well aware of it,” Stalin added, describing Tamil Nadu as the land of Thiruvalluvar where discrimination based on one’s birth is opposed.

The Chief Minister also announced that the draft Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation was underway and construction works would soon begin for the establishment of the Vallalar International Centre in Vadalur. He also announced the inauguration of the one-year Annadhanam scheme. Ministers K N Nehru (local administration), MRK Panneerselvam (agriculture) and Ma Subramanian (health) and HR and CE Minister P K Sekar Babu and officials of the State also took part in the function.
