Elderly woman found dead inside home in Avadi

CHENNAI: A 72-year-old home-alone woman was found dead at her house in Avadi on Sunday. Preliminary investigations suggested that the woman might have been murdered.
The deceased was identified as Savithiri, a resident of Bhavani Amman Koil street near Podhigai Nagar near Avadi.
Police sources said that Savithiri was a widow and was living alone while her five children were living in different neighbourhoods in Avadi.
According to a police official, Savithiri was managing her expenses from rental income.
On Sunday night, neighbours noted foul smell emanating from inside the house after which they alerted the daughters living nearby. On opening the front door, the elderly woman was found with cut injuries.
Police suspect the woman to have murdered for gain. Avadi Police have registered a case and have moved the body to government hospital for autopsy. Police are perusing CCTV footages in the neighbourhood to find if there were movements of any unknown persons.
