CHENNAI: For the month of September, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded a remarkable increase of passenger footfall by over 5 lakh compared to previous months. In September about 61.12 lakh passengers took Metro rail service in comparison to 56.66 lakh passengers in August.
According to a CMRL press note, September 30 recorded the highest passenger flow with as many as 2.45 lakh passengers taking the service.
Meanwhile, the department this year has been seeing a sharp increase in ridership since the beginning of the year. From a decent start of 25.19 lakh passengers in January, CMRL through its active awareness and discount programmes, were able to garner 35.93 lakh more passengers in the span of ten months. Till date, 4.18 crore passengers have travelled in Metro in 2022.
Subsequently, for September alone, 4.98 lakh passengers used QR code facility and 38.23 lakh passengers used travel cards to commute in Chennai Metro trains.
