CHENNAI: The Chairman of the Waqf Board has been booked by Chennai police for allegedly disrespecting the State Emblem, National Emblem and Flag.

The complainant, a member of the Waqf Protection Forum, alleged in his complaint that, the board chairman, Abdul Rahman, had been violating National laws by travelling with a National Flag in front of his car, a siren above the vehicle and also by using State Emblem on a private website that he created in the name of Waqf Board.

The North Beach police registered a case under The Prevention Of Insults To National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2003, State Emblem Of India (Prohibition Of Improper Use) Act and 2005 Emblem Of India (Prohibition Of Improper Use) Act, 2005.

Abdul Rahman had taken charge as the Chairman TN Waqf Board on July 13, 2021.

The complainant also alleged that Abdul Rahman has abused his power as the Chairman of the Waqf Board, which is the superintending authority of the Nagore Dargah, and compelled the priests to open the shrine for him and his supporters. He gathered the crowd illegally in violation of the pandemic, said the complainant.
