CHENNAI: The Chennai corporation has decided to set up a model school to train students studying at Corporation school in the city and will fund students from the academic year 2022-2023.

The benficiaries will be trained in professional courses at premier learning institutes of higher education and an estimate of Rs 1.83 crore will be allocated for the scheme.

“As many as 160 students (80 female and 80 male students) will be selected from Class 11 and 12 by the civic authorities. The training will be provided at Chennai Boys Higher Secondary School at Nungambakkam. The project has been designed to create and implement a suitable environment for students where quality kitchen and studying ambience will be provided. The project will be implemented in a phased manner, read a resolution passed by th Corporation council.

Hostels for about 20 students, allotment of four rooms for 80 male students, 4 rooms for 80 female students, 8 dormitory rooms with security facilities for 160 students will come up as part of the scheme.

Dining hall, bed, toilet facilities and security will be provided. Hostel keepers, subject teachers, teacher associates will be roped in to assist the beneficairy students, the civic body said. The school education department will hire the necssary teachers for the scheme and depute them to the civic body. In 2021-2022, a total of 80 students benefitted and this year the number of beneficairies will be 160.
