CHENNAI: The Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail to a college student imposing a condition on him to serve in a private rehabilitation centre for six weeks. The youth was booked on charges of showing a knife to the train passengers claiming him to be the route thala.

Justice AD Jagadish Chandira passed the orders on disposing of the bail application filed by the petitioner named Kutty Venkatesh, a student of Pachaiyappa’s College. The judge granted the relief on the grounds that the accused was a student, and, thus his studies and future shall be deteriorated due to the police case.

When taking up the matter, the judge called the youth’s father to present before the court. The youth’s father said that he was a cashier in a city-based eatery and toiling for his son’s collegiate education.

Recording the submissions, Justice Jagadish Chandira asked Kutty Venkatesh, to serve in the Mithra Private Rehabilitation home for children and physically challenged people for six weeks. The court insisted the petitioner submit a weekly report to the warden of the home. According to the judge, he imposed the condition to make the accused realize the value of humanity.

Recently, Justice Jagadish Chandira granted bail to a youth who was booked for performing bike stunts with his two-wheeler on Anna Salai imposing a condition on the youth to issue pamphlets about road safety in Teynampet signal. The judge also directed him to post a road safety awareness video on his Instagram page which has a huge volume of followers.
