TIRUVALLUR: Police on Tuesday arrested and registered a case against 66 people, including 15 women, who continued to stage a two-week long protest demanding job reinstatement.

Nearly 178 workers who had worked at a car manufacturing company in Kadambathur were fired from their jobs four years ago when the company changed hands. Following this, the former employees organised repeated protests over the years demanding to be reinstated to no avail.

The protest gained steam over the past two weeks when hundreds of employees gathered along with their families and staged a sit-in protest in front of the company. On the 15th day of protest on Tuesday, when the protestors refused to leave the premises even at night, based on a complaint by the car manufacturing unit, the Tiruvallur police arrested 66 of them of which 15 were women.

The arrested protestors have been stationed at a private wedding hall in Tirupachur. Further investigations are on.
