Petrol bomb incidents: OPS urges TN govt to deal with iron hands

CHENNAI: Reiterating that the Law and Order in the State have deteriorated, former chief minister and ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam on Monday urged the DMK government to identify anti-social elements, who were indulged in petrol bomb violence, and deal it with iron hands.

Alleging that murders have increased in the State after DMK came to power, Panneerselvam said that it has become a regular affair that the DMK cadres have indulged in threatening the police personnel as well as government officials.

"At this juncture, petrol bombs were hurled at BJP and RSS offices," he said adding that the first incident occurred in Coimbatore and it spread to Erode, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Dindugal, Salem, Tirupur, and Kanniyakumari.

Claiming that government should have taken steps to stop petrol bomb incidents at the initial stage, the deputy opposition leader of the House said: "This shows the DMK government's lethargic approach".

He said a situation has come that people are in fear when another petrol bomb incident would take occur. "Due to these incidents vehicles of innocent people were damaged," he added.

Claiming that when AIADMK was in power headed by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa the Law and Order was intact, Panneerselvam said: "However, today there is no safety for the people and if this continues, the economy of State and the country will be affected".

Claiming that due to ineffective steps, violent activities have increased in the State, Panneerselvam said: "It is the government's duty to identify anti-social elements and deal them with iron hands".

"Therefore, the Chief Minister should immediately intervene and take effective and precautionary measures to prevent violent incidents in the State," he added.
