CHENNAI: Following the orders from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security 30 per cent of CISF personnel are being replaced by private security officers in the Chennai airport.

Sources said there are a total of 1,500 CISF personnel in the Chennai airport and now 450 of them will be replaced by private security.

Airport sources said the securities would be selected after several tests and they should be an ex-army man. However, the CISF would be checking the passengers, control room, and cargo area while the private security will be on duty in other areas of the airport.

On Sunday, 50 security officers were selected and the airport director issued the joining letter to them. They will be trained in the Chennai airport for the next two weeks and later they will be assigned a role, said an airport official.

However, currently, all the 1,500 CISF personnel are on duty in the Chennai airport still there is no change in that and it would take another few months.
