CHENNAI: Actress Lakshmi Vasudevan on Sunday opened up about a loan app scam and stated that someone has morphed her photos and shared it to her close ones. In a video, she requested her fans to be aware of it.

She said, "Photos of me have been morphed and were sent through some new number to my contacts. One week ago, on September 11th, I got a message saying that I have been allocated 5 lakh rupees of lucky money or something, it was regarding a loan. So, I clicked the link and then, the app got downloaded. The next minute, my phone got hacked and I didn't realise it until 3-4 days when I got messages saying that I have taken a loan of 5 thousand rupees and it needs to be repaid. I continuously got messages and some vulgar messages also popped up saying that If i didn't repay they would share photos and make it viral".

She continued: "Then only I understood the seriousness of the issue and I raised a complaint to Cyberabad Cybercrime police. Meanwhile, the morphed photos have been sent to some contacts of mine. The photos have been sent to my parents and friends. Definitely people know what kind of person I am and I don't I need to prove it to anyone, but still, downloading such a wrong app has led to a lot of problems for me.”

She urged people to be aware of such messages sent by unknown numbers and to be aware of the loan app scams and not download any app in this regard.

She added, “The cybercrime police also had requested me to create awareness regarding the loan app scams on social media for people to be aware of it, because they also had lead to suicides. If you get the photos, please click report and please don't download apps on it. The numbers are also not indian numbers and the IP address is changing, the cybercrime is also doing their best to track them".
