Man attacked with knife during funeral procession; Five held

CHENNAI: Neelankarai Police have arrested five persons for allegedly attacking a man with a knife during a funeral procession in Injambakkam on Sunday.

The injured person, M Suresh (27) of Bethel Nagar in Injambakkam was walking towards the cemetery with the funeral procession, when a gang of drunk men picked up an argument with him and assaulted him.

When Suresh resisted, the gang assaulted him with weapons and inflicted a knife injury on Suresh and fled the scene.

Onlookers rescued Suresh and admitted him to a hospital nearby. Based on his complaint, Neelankarai Police arrested five persons- T Prabhakaran (27), V Aravindan (22), S Ajay (20), N Ragavendran (23) and M Mageshwaran (22). They were booked on charges of attempt to murder.

Police seized weapons and a two wheeler from them. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
