Four smuggle ganja from Tripura, held

Police had received a tip-off about ganja being smuggled into the city and kept a strict vigil in and around the central railway station.

CHENNAI: Four people including two women were arrested for smuggling ganja from Tripura. They were caught when they tried to step into a lodge on Thiruvengadam Street off EVR Salai on Monday night. Police examined their baggage and seized five kg of ganja from them.

Police had received a tip-off about ganja being smuggled into the city and kept a strict vigil in and around the central railway station.

A police team had apprehended the quartet on suspicion and investigated. As they gave contradictory answers, their baggage was searched, and found ganja in it. The arrested were identified as Faizer Ali (40) and Iliyas (21) of Tripura and the two women- Melaka Beevi (40) and Fathima Beevi (36). They were remanded in judicial custody.

In another incident in Madipakkam, a 22-year-old man, Mahaveer was arrested for selling painkiller tablets near the lake in Iyappa Nagar. Police seized 150 Tydol tablets from him.
