OMR tragedy: Speeding luxury car mows down 2 women techies

On Wednesday night after duty, both of them were walking towards their place of stay from the office when a Honda City car (TN 14 V 7707 ) which was out of control hit both from behind. Both suffered severe head injuries.

CHENNAI: Two women software engineers, working in HCL, died in an accident after they were rammed by a car while walking home from their office on OMR on Wednesday night.

Police said the deceased identified as R Lakshmi (23) of Palakkad and S Lavanya (23) of Tirupati were working as a software engineer in HCL and were staying in a house on OMR. On Wednesday night after duty, both of them were walking towards their place of stay from the office when a Honda City car (TN 14 V 7707 ) which was out of control hit both from behind. Both suffered severe head injuries.

Onlookers informed the ambulance and also caught hold of the car driver when he tried to run from the spot. Police said Lakshmi died on the spot and Lavanya was admitted to the Chennai GH in a critical condition and died without responding to treatments on Thursday morning. The Pallikaranai traffic police registered a case and arrested the car driver Mothish Kumar (20) of Sholinganallur and further inquiry is on.

Police said Mothish has been sent to hospital to check if he was under the influence of alcohol.
