TIRUVALLUR: The police are on the lookout for a woman who reportedly made away with 26 sovereigns of gold jewellery from two different wedding halls in Tiruvallur on Friday.

Balasubramanian (59), a resident of Kadambathur, had arranged his daughter’s wedding at a hall in Manavalan Nagar on Friday. While the wedding was in full swing, a woman who pretended to be a relative of the family, entered the bride’s room and had a chat with everyone in the room.

“When nobody was looking, she took a chain weighing 6 sovereigns and escaped,” police said. The Manavalan Nagar police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the thief. Similarly, Sathyamurthy, a farmer residing at Ekattur village filed a complaint with the police claiming that an unknown woman pretending to be a family friend broke into his son’s wedding that was held at Oil Mill Road. “The woman fled the wedding with 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery belonging to the bride,” police said.

The Tiruvallur police registered a case perusing the surveillance camera footage to identify the thief. They’re also investigating to see if both crimes were committed by the same woman.
