CHENNAI: The ruling DMK will publish a collection of letters the party’s former party president M Karunanidhi had penned from 1968 till his death in 2018.

The collection comprising 4,041 letters is being published in 54 parts by Seethai Publication.

The letter’s collection running into 21,510 pages would be released by party president cum Chief Minister MK Stalin at the mupperum vizha function of the party to be held in Virudhunagar on September 15.

DMK general secretary Duraimurugan would collect the first copy of the book “Kalaignar Kadithangal” (Kalaignar letters), which would document the DMK’s views of the State and country’s history during the last half century till Karunanidhi’s death in August 2018.

Famously called “Udanpirapu Kaditham”, the former five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu elucidated his views on various issues on a daily basis throughout his political career spanning around eight decades.

The letters published in DMK mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ offered a glimpse of history to readers as Karunanidhi recalled at length the circumstances under which events unfolded.

Sometimes, he wrote a series of letters on different issues like corruption in the AIADMK regime, Cauvery riparian dispute and alliance dynamics, mainly during the party’s stint as the principal opposition party.

Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced last year that the party would publish his father’s letter collection.
