RMC predicts rain in Chennai for next two days

The maximum temperature in Chennai has been dipped by three degrees Celsius more than normal on Wednesday. The weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 31 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

CHENNAI: The city woke up to cloudy weather on Wednesday and the weather office forcast ranged from light to moderate rains along with thunderstorm activity for the next two days.

"Due to the atmospheric downward circulation prevailing over the northern parts of TN, Chennai and isolated places in the State light to moderate rains are expected for the next few days. Circulation pattern moves towards the neighbouring States, dry weather is expected to be back across the State after a long gap," said a senior RMC official.

Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea till Sunday (September 11). Squally weather with wind speeds expected to reach 45 kmph -55 kmph is likely to prevail, over the Comorin area in Kanyakumari, Gulf of Mannar, South Tamil Nadu coast and parts of South and Central Bay of Bengal, warned the centre.

Chennai rains tweeted, "Monsoon 2022 tally for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry subdivision is at 443.7 mm. This is the fifth highest since 1901 and 90 percent more than average on the day. The southwest monsoon seasonal low-pressure area for TN and PDC is 336.1 mm. With three weeks of SWM still left this year, it could end as the wettest SWM in more than 100 years."

As several districts of Tamil Nadu received heavy to very heavy rains during the last 24 hours, the highest amount of rainfall recorded in Villupuram was 9 cm, followed by Pudukottai, Kallakurichi 7 cm each, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, and Nilgiris received 6 cm of rainfall each, according to RMC data.
