CHENNAI: Residents of Iyyapanthangal are facing health threat with miscreants illegally dumping meat waste and sewage on a vacant land in the locality, now home for stray pigs.
P Senthil Kumar, a social activist in the locality, said the vacant plot is located on Mettu Salai, close to SRMC Police Station. “Unknown persons dump meat waste on the plot. No one can cross the spot without covering the nose, as stench emanating from the waste is unbearable. Pedestrians are most affected. Meat waste are thrown at the spot every day,” he added.
Due to the uncontrolled dumping of garbage and meat waste of poultry and mutton, pigs forage the waste, which has turned another concern for the residents.
Senthil Kumar also raised a complaint with the local body officials to identify the unknown persons and take permanent measures to prevent further dumping.
The upset resident, Senthil, said school students also suffer from illegal dumping as there is a school on close proximity to the spot. Moreover, the locality is a residential area.
Meanwhile, a health inspector attached to the Iyyapanthangal village panchayat assured an early inspection at the spot. He said measures will be taken to remove the waste from the spot.
