The two Belgian Malinois dogs to join the Chennai airport dog squad

The dogs will be trained on how to find explosives and identify contrabands. After the completion of training dogs will be brought to Chennai and would be joining the squad by the end of this year.

CHENNAI: The two Belgian Malinois dogs are all set to join the Chennai airport dog squad from December this year. Chennai airport is the first airport to use Belgian Malinois in India.

Airport sources said the Belgian Malinois dogs are used as sniffer dogs in most of the foreign countries and considered as one of the best sniffer dogs. In India for the first time, the Belgian Malinois breed is being used for security purposes in the Chennai airport and the two dogs were recently bought by the Airports Authority of India and they were named Bairava and Veera. Airport officials said both the dogs have been sent to special canine training in Bangalore.

The dogs will be trained on how to find explosives and identify contrabands. After the completion of training dogs will be brought to Chennai and would be joining the squad by the end of this year.

At present the state police, railway police, forest department use sniffer dogs to patrol protected and public moving areas. Labrador, German shepherd, Belgian shepherd and Doberman are some of the commonly used sniffer dogs in the state.
