Youth found dead after temple festival; family suspicious

According to the complaint by his family members, he left home on Sunday night after watching the fireworks as part of the temple festival there. Police said around 10 pm, Udayakumar had taken a friend’s bike and went for a ride.

CHENNAI: Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old youth whose body was found by the roadside along Ennore expressway in Tiruvottiyur. The deceased was identified as V Udayakumar. Police said that the deceased is a resident of Thiruvottiyur Kuppam. According to the complaint by his family members, he left home on Sunday night after watching the fireworks as part of the temple festival there. Police said around 10 pm, Udayakumar had taken a friend’s bike and went for a ride. During the early hours of the next day, family members received a phone call that Udayakumar was found with injuries near the Masthan temple. The bike was found a few metres away. A passer-by who had found the badly injured youth took him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Tiruvottiyur police sent the body to government hospital for autopsy. The family members have alleged suspicion in the youth’s death. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
