CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday distributed relocation assistance for beneficiaries of Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) residing at Raja Garden in Kolathur, to the tune of Rs 20.16 lakh.

The Chief Minister also issued temporary allocation orders for beneficiaries of the TNUHDB tenements. As many as 84 beneficiaries received the relocation assistance of Rs 24,000 each.

The tenements in Raja Garden was constructed in 1974-75 with 84 units with 280 square feet. As the houses were almost 50 years old and were in a dilapidated state, the Tamil Nadu government decided to construct new THUHDB tenements for all the 84 families. Till the completion of new tenements, the beneficiaries need to be relocated to rented houses and the assistance for relocation which was Rs 8,000 was increased by 300 per cent to Rs 24,000 per beneficiary and the increased relocation assistance was provided to the beneficiaries.

The new units will have 400 square feet each and the building will be a nine-storey apartment constructed at the total cost of Rs 24.3 crore. Each unit will cost Rs 15 lakh in which Rs 7 lakh will be given as subsidy by the State government, Rs 6.09 lakh will be the fund of the State Infrastructure Development Fund and the Rs 1.5 lakh will be the subsidy of the Union government. The beneficiaries need to pay the remaining Rs 41,000 as a single payment or Rs 250 per month for 20 years.

Each unit will have a hall, bedroom, kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet and a 300-litre capacity concrete water tank on top of the building. The nine storey building will have two elevators, generators and rain water harvesting structures.

MSME Minister TM Anbarasan and HR&CE Minister PK Sekar Babu were present during the distribution of relocation assistance and temporary allocation orders.
