Customs officials seized 6.2 kg of gold worth Rs 2.83 cr at airport

Two gold bars, 2 cut bits and a gold chain weighing 428 gm and electronic goods were recovered and seized from a male passenger from Singapore. In an Indigo flight that arrived from Colombo, 318 gm of gold paste was found inside a passenger seat.

CHENNAI: Officers intercepted 11 Sri Lankan passengers and found 3.5 kg of gold concealed in their innerwear and rectum. A woman passenger was intercepted, and 313 gm of gold (Rs 15.59 lakh worth) was recovered. From a passenger arriving from Bangkok, 272 gm of gold paste valued at Rs 12.68 lakh was recovered. Two gold bars, 2 cut bits and a gold chain weighing 428 gm and electronic goods were recovered and seized from a male passenger from Singapore. In an Indigo flight that arrived from Colombo, 318 gm of gold paste was found inside a passenger seat. While cleaning toilets in the Immigration hall, a black colour plastic packet containing gold ingot weighing 642 gm (Rs 29.92 lakh) was found in the drain below the wall-mounted toilet seat. Gold worth Rs 45.15 lakh was seized in one of the lavatories of Indigo flight that arrived from Dhaka.
