Out on bail, rowdy hacked to death to avenge murder

Police said Sandeep died on the spot. Anna Nagar police secured his body and sent it to the government hospital for autopsy.

CHENNAI: A 30-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death in broad daylight near Naduvankarai bridge at Annai Indira Nagar near Anna Nagar on Friday. Police have launched a hunt for the assailants.

The deceased was identified as M Sandeep Kumar (30) of Aminjikarai. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was the prime accused in the murder of one Adityan in 2018.

Out on bail recently, Sandeep has been making a living as an auto driver, police said. He had appeared before the court for the trial recently. On Friday afternoon, he visited a relative at Annai Indira Nagar and was returning home when an unidentified six-member gang waylaid him and hacked him to death.

Police said Sandeep died on the spot. Anna Nagar police secured his body and sent it to the government hospital for autopsy.

Police suspect Sandeep was murdered to avenge Adityan’s death, in which he was the prime accused. Further investigations are on.
