CHENNAI: A Turkey-Malaysia flight made an emergency landing at Chennai airport on Thursday after a passenger suffered labour pain.

The Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul departed to Malaysia with 326 passengers on Thursday early morning. In the afternoon, Nurfarah Asyiqin Binti Abd Rahim (26) of Malaysia suffered labour pain during the flight. Soon, the pilot was informed and since Chennai was the nearest airport, they sought permission from the ATC for an emergency landing. The permission was granted and the flight landed at the Chennai airport at 1.50 am.

The medical team, who rushed inside the flight, found the woman had delivered the baby in premature birth and the baby was born dead. Later, the airport officials after discussing with the Immigration officials issued an emergency visa for Nurfarah Asyinqin and her husband Abith Rahim.

Airport sources said the officials allowed only the woman and her husband to get down from the flight and the baby which was born dead was not allowed to be offloaded from the flight.

Later, the woman was admitted to the Apollo Cradle and Children Hospital at 3.50 pm for further treatment. The flight departed for Doha with the remaining passengers at 4.30 pm.
